What is PAPT?

The Port-au-Prince Transit (PAPT) system is a comprehensive reimagining of public transportation infrastructure for Haiti's capital. Building on early design concepts from 2024, the 2025 update presents a fully integrated network of six rapid transit lines spanning 97 stations, representing 79 unique physical locations across the metropolitan area.

Designed to connect major residential, commercial, and institutional districts, PAPT directly addresses Port-au-Prince's most urgent mobility challenges through a model centered on sustainability, accessibility, and resilience.

By Year 5 of full operations, PAPT is projected to serve 800,000–1.2 million daily passengers, reduce CO₂ emissions by 300,000–500,000 tons annually, create 20,000+ local jobs during construction, and catalyze a new era of organized urban development throughout Port-au-Prince.

Design Ethos

PAPT's visual identity emphasizes clarity, accessibility, and modern design principles suitable for an international transit system.

Optimized for high visibility and readability with clear letterforms, excellent legibility at various sizes, and multi-lingual support (Kreyòl, English, French).

Color System

Six official line colors ensure instant recognition and wayfinding clarity. The brand draws from Haiti's national flag, blue and red, creating a strong cultural connection while maintaining international standards.

Accessibility First

Universal design principles, standard international symbols, high contrast for readability, and multi-lingual signage ensure the system is accessible to all residents and visitors.

Wayfinding Elements

Station signs, circular line badges, multi-colored transfer symbols, and colored accent bars create an intuitive navigation experience.

Sustainability

Solar-powered electric transit system with regenerative braking, energy-efficient stations, and green building materials. PAPT prioritizes environmental responsibility in every design decision.

Community Centered

Designed with input from Port-au-Prince residents, connecting neighborhoods to opportunities. Station placement prioritizes underserved communities and promotes equitable access to transit.
